Shurmo Clean Water Appeal
Shurmo village in Ethiopia is home to some of the friendliest people on the planet - people we have grown to know over the last 5 years. They live in a country where 42.5 million people don't have access to clean, safe water.
But there’s a problem
It's a desperate time in East Africa. International Needs Australia (INA) has been monitoring the situation on the ground in the project region of Shurmo, Ethiopia, and it is now clear to us, that in order to ensure a healthy future for the people of Shurmo we need to urgently build a water reservoir. This will give them close access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water.
We need to raise $160,000
Here’s what we’re doing about it
We want to build a water reservoir for Shurmo. The total project will cost AU$160,000 so we are calling on the Australian public to help us get it built.
We’re raising money for 3 separate development phases -
- Phase 1 gets us started with all the preparation works
- Phase 2 sees us knee deep in construction
- Phase 3 completes all works (including sanitation and education)
Then we get to turn on the taps!
Having a clean source of drinking water will mean big reductions in deadly illnesses like typhoid, cholera and other water born diseases. It will also serve as a focal point of joy for the 6,000 people who live in this community - having clean, safe water nearby literally breathes life into a community.
