The Role

INA is seeking a driven and proactive leader to provide visionary and strategic leadership to deliver on the mission of the organisation. Reporting to the Board, you will have responsibility for all aspects of the organisation including financial management, strategic planning, stakeholder relations, compliance, income generation and organizational and staff development.

You will be someone that is able to naturally form and nurture relationships through supporting and empowering your team, while also comfortable interacting with overseas partners, governments, and regulatory bodies and developing meaningful relationships with donors, beneficiaries, community organisations, churches and volunteers.

 

Skills Required

You will have:

  • Experience at a senior management level of a successful NFP business that includes people leadership and HR practices, asset and capital management, safety, legislative and standards compliance, financial management covering cash flow, balance sheet and profit and loss reporting.
  • Practical experience in the operations of an overseas aid and development organization.
  • Demonstrated capability of working with the Board and key external stakeholders both in and outside Australia including the church community.
  • A strong commitment and alignment with INA’s mission, vision and values and philosophy statement and your personal values and an inter-denominational appreciation and willingness to serve those with other beliefs.

Position Title: Chief Executive Officer

 

Location

Mission

International Needs Australia (INA) is a Christian aid and development NFP working with overseas partners to reduce poverty and illiteracy of people in the world’s poorest countries and to improve their quality of life through sustainable long term relief and development programs. It does this with selected International Needs partners and local partners believing that local partners are better placed to assist.

 

Key Deliverables

  1. To profitably and safely lead INA, creating and supporting a dynamic and productive organisation whilst ensuring its mission purpose is achieved.
  2. To effectively manage INA to ensure that in a highly competitive area income is maintained and increased in line with Board plans.
  3. To effectively lead the managerial team, staff and office volunteers of INA to ensure a stronger more vibrant and productive organisation.
  4. To be responsible for ensuring agreed strategies, objectives and goals are achieved including approved budget.
  5. To select appropriate projects in a variety of countries and ensure the high standard achieved with these projects and audit process is continued and further strengthened.
  6. To ensure all Government and Regulatory body requirements are applied and standards are upheld.
  7. To ensure brand loyalty and community education programs are further strengthened
  8. Ensure ongoing accreditation with DFAT and ACFID.

 

Level of Supervision

As the senior role there is a high level of autonomy and minimal supervision. The CEO consults with the Board Chair and the Board on key budgetary matters, strategic direction and objectives.  

 

Personal Attributes and Requirements

  1.  Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and a commitment to the missionary vision of INA and allied organisations;
  2. A member of a worshipping community;
  3. Demonstrated business acumen;
  4. Acceptance of the Philosophy statement of INA as a guiding document;
  5. To have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with the Board, staff and the stakeholders, both in Australia and overseas;
  6. To demonstrate integrity by being honest, open and truthful in all relations;
  7.  A strong commitment to INA’s mission and values and to work in a way that reflects these;
  8.  A proven record as a visionary and enthusiastic leader and communicator;
  9.  An inter-denominational appreciation and willingness to serve those with other beliefs; and
  10. A preparedness for occasional interstate and overseas travel.

 

The Desired Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in International Aid and Development.
  • Other degree/s or qualifications with business management subjects would be highly regarded.

 

Experience

  • Management level of a successful NFP business.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a capability in senior management areas covering: people leadership and HR practices, asset and capital management, safety, legislative and standards compliance, financial management covering cash flow, balance sheet and profit and loss reporting.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a capability of working with the Board and key external stakeholders both in and outside Australia including the church community.
  • Active senior level involvement with the operation of an aid and development organisation. (preferably with overseas aid involvement). Able to demonstrate practical experience in this area.

 

Scheduled Appraisal

This will be conducted by the Board Chair and a Board member (and/or another) annually.  

 

Board/CEO Relationship

  • The CEO is accountable to the Board of Directors of INA and will regularly communicate with the Chairperson as agreed.
  • With the Chair enable the Board to fulfill its governance function.
  • Assist the Chair in fulfilling Board training requirements
  • Direct engagement also occurs with the Board, through Board meetings and Board Committees that will provide broader direction as required.
  • The CEO will attend each Board meeting having prepared and presented financial and operational reports concerning the activities of INA and other matters of interest/concern. Other reports may need to be prepared and submitted from time to time as required by the Board, and will be requested by the Chairperson.
  • To bring recommendations to the Board regarding any other income generating opportunities or matters outside the normal sphere.
  • Maintain an honest open and truthful relationship with the Board at all times.

Donors, supporters, Government and regulatory bodies, NGO/ NFP Associations and groups, local and overseas partners, networking relationships and IN Global relationships.


Key Result Areas

 

1. The CEO will constantly be endeavoring to develop the ministry of INA by presenting to the Board ongoing vision for its expansion, development, effective productivity and care and development of the staff.

In this Key Result Area (KRA) I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • Ongoing vision, initiatives and plans are brought to the Board for appraisal and approval
  • Positive outcomes are achieved with a positive long term outlook for INA.
  • Healthy staff relationships are evident and help is given to staff in need.
  • Outcomes from strategic planning arising from strategy meetings are implemented or milestones in the 5 year Strategic Plan achieved.
  • Desired outcomes are achieved for overseas projects which fulfill the stated aims of INA
  • As current projects end I seek and implement new projects.
  • I have developed additional projects with existing or new partners to expand the aid and development aims of INA as increased income allows.
  • I have developed a well-connected widespread network of both donors and potential donors.

 

2. The CEO will be responsible for maintaining excellent Public and Government relations with clear communication to all stakeholders.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • I have ensured that INA’s stakeholders are kept aware of the vision and ministry of our Christian organisation and that they have an understanding of the uniqueness of our project distribution.

 

3. The CEO is to ensure compliance with all relevant Government and Legal requirements that affect INA.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • I can report to the Board on all Government regulations that impact INA including but not limited to: OHS, Employment, NGO/ NFP/ Charitable organisations and tax law are fully complied with.
  • I have reported to the Board policies identified which require modification or creation.
  • I ensure that accurate and timely reporting to any government or legal agency is achieved.

 

4.The CEO is responsible for the Financial Management of INA.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • An annual budget and business plan is adopted by the Board and I regularly submit financial reports in line with them. Substantial variations are reported together with intended remedial action.
  • I have achieved the annual budget in terms of income, expenses, project costs and the desired end result.
  • The financial reports are produced in an accurate and timely way that correctly states the financial position of INA.
  • All financial risks that may affect the future viability of INA are communicated to the Board as soon as known.
  • I have presented to the Board plans for managing or eliminating any financial risks I have identified.
  • I have identified non-financial risks and taken steps to develop and implement appropriate steps to substantially reduce or eliminate such risk.
  • INA is trading well and continues to be capable of meeting its financial requirements.
  • Our external service providers in Australia and overseas are managed to ensure they provide on time and accurate services that meet the needs of INA also ensuring that we comply with all external reporting requirements.
  • The stewardship of the finances will reflect the vision and core values of INA.
  • Any capital deployed or new resources expended are done in a manner that meets the INA Business Plan as has been adopted by the Board.

 

5. The CEO will market the ministry and vision of INA.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • Existing and new relationships with Churches and pastors are strengthened with increased awareness of INA.
  • I am actively marketing and advocating for the ministry and vision of INA to the market place.
  • I have encouraged the staff to effectively communicate the vision and ministry.
  • An effective marketing program is developed and implemented including specific regular measurable milestones and goals.
  • Projects with overseas partnerships are progressing in timely fashion, funds are spent wisely and end recipients provided with quality benefits.

 

6. The CEO is responsible for safety, quality and the environment of INA operations.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • The safety system is supported and applied across all operations and is designed to ensure we achieve a no harm outcome for our staff, management and the general public.
  • INA has no lost time injuries.
  • All safety legislative compliance requirements are adopted, with systems and processes in place.
  • All environmental legislative compliance requirements are achieved and encapsulated in internal systems and processes.
  • Quality standards for the services we deliver are established, supported, and measured for compliance against all relevant legislative standards and those of INA itself.
  • The necessary internal safeguards (including child protection) and reporting systems and for overseas project partners are in place and applied.
  • Policies and other manuals are maintained and updated.

 

7. The CEO will ensure the ongoing commitment of managers and staff and office volunteers to healthy lives, both physically, emotionally and spiritually.

In this KRA I will have done a satisfactory job when:

  • I am prepared to listen to the advice of staff and seek input from them as necessary
  • I am aware of the successes and concerns of the staff and volunteers and find help where needed.
  • I am assured of the satisfactory performance of the staff.
  • I encourage good delegation throughout the organisation.
  • I deal with interpersonal and personal issues in a timely and sensitive manner.
  • I provide spiritual input and leadership to all staff.
  • Policy and other Manuals are maintained and updated.
